Joint Programme on Gender-based Violence Prevention and Response in Sri Lanka

The Joint Programme on Prevention and Response to Gender-based Violence in Sri Lanka worked to reduce gender-based violence through multi-sectoral interventions and effective implementation of laws and policies in keeping with international standards.

It conducted capacity building for health care workers and law enforcement, raised awareness among communities, strengthened data collection systems and established and strengthened services for GBV survivors.

A joint effort of UNFPA, ILO, UNICEF, UNHCR, UNDP and WHO, funded by UN Women, the programme ran from 2010 to 2014.
