For the United Nations, Syria is the biggest humanitarian crisis today, with repercussions on the whole region, and more specifically on its neighbouring countries. As the crisis enters its fifth year, women, men, girls and boys in and from Syria face death, violence and displacement, and humanitarian organizations struggle to respond to the immense challenge of assisting and protecting peoples’ lives and dignity.
UNFPA and partners are scaling up efforts to empower and improve the lives of women and youth affected by the crisis in Syria and in host countries, including by advocating for human rights and gender equality, which will allow them to better cope with and recover from the crisis. In this resource, UNFPA provides information on the six countries in the region most impacted by the crisis – Syrian Arab Republic, Lebanon, Jordan, Egypt, Iraq and Turkey – and an overview of the UNFPA response.
