UNFPA's humanitarian response to the crisis in Yemen includes:
- Provision of emergency SGBV kits and supplies: Medical supplies including post-rape treatment kits are distributed to selected health government and NGO facilities to be used for GBV survivors in the clinical management of rape and treatment of sexually transmitted infections.
- GBV services: Services to respond to GBV include psycho-social support, legal aid, access to safe houses and referrals to health and other services are being provided.
- Provision of dignity kits: These kits contain personal hygiene items and culturally appropriate clothing to allow women to maintain their personal hygiene, particularly menstrual hygiene; and have improved mobility and reduced vulnerability to gender-based violence when seeking humanitarian aid. These now include aqua-tablets and information on cholera prevention.
- Community awareness on GBV issues and GBV services: These sessions aim to give information through educational materials about GBV issues and services.
- Support for engagement of men and boys: Encourage men (partners) and boys' engagement in combating GBV and support interventions.
- Strengthening GBV Information and Management System: This system functions at the national and sub-national levels, in the south and the north of Yemen, to generate data and analysis on GBV issues. It also allows partners to monitor and respond to identified GBV cases.
- Specialized GBV services and support structures: UNFPA will support identification of GBV survivors, establish functioning referral pathways and assist local service providers in its adoption.
- Support services and livelihoods opportunities for GBV survivors: UNFPA will implement the springboard programme, which aims to benefit survivors of GBV and women and girls at risk by rebuilding their inner strengths and supporting the fulfillment of their aspirations.
- Mainstreaming GBV in sectoral strategies: Inter-Agency Standing Committee (ISAC) guidelines on GBV prevention and response in Yemen will be rolled-out and support provided to develop sector-specific action plans including risk mitigations strategies across the Yemen humanitarian response.
- Coordination of GBV sub-cluster at national and sub-national level: UNFPA takes the lead in supporting existing coordination mechanism to ensure that interventions are well interlinked on the ground and implemented according to sub-cluster plans.
