The Position:
The post is located in the Executive Board Branch, in the Office of the Executive Director (OED) and reports to the Chief, Executive Board Branch (EBB/OED).
Under the overall supervision of the Chief, Executive Board Branch, the Board and Governance Specialist will assist in the development and implementation of strategies and approaches to maximize the effectiveness of UNFPA's interactions with the UNFPA Executive Board and with a view to advancing UNFPA’s mandate. The staff member will provide strategic support and guidance to UNFPA units in developing the Fund's reports, policies and programmes for information and decision-making by the Executive Board. She/he will coordinate UNFPA's interaction with Executive Board Member and Observer States, and with other agencies sharing the Executive Board, including through preparing informal consultations and formal sessions of the Executive Board.
Qualifications and Experience
Education:
Advanced university degree in the social sciences, law, humanities, international relations, political science or related disciplines.
Knowledge and Experience:
• At least 7 years of relevant progressively responsible experience in an international organization, as well as professional experience in international development, or related areas at the national, regional or international level.
• Experience in drafting relating to social, political, economic and demographic development at the international level is desirable.
• Excellent interpersonal, stakeholder management and engagement and negotiation skills required.
• Sound political judgement and ability to work and remain calm under pressure required.
• Excellent writing and communication skills required
• Experience and knowledge of intergovernmental processes and the substantive subject areas of UNFPA work, including population and development, reproductive health, gender, HIV/AIDS and human rights are considered assets for undertaking the duties of the position.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and deliver with limited assistance and supervision.
Languages:
Fluency in English is required; working knowledge of another official UN language is an asset.
