The Position:

Reporting to the Interagency Affairs Coordinator, the Analyst will support strategic positioning of UNFPA in the interagency fora. The Interagency Affairs team, located in the Interagency, Intergovernmental and Policy Dialogue Branch, Policy and Strategy Division, maintains regular contact with external partners and UNFPA staff assigned to the various inter-agency working groups thus ensuring that UNFPA is well positioned on UNDS Reform and broader inter-agency matters.

Job Purpose:

The incumbent plays a key role to facilitate the development of UNFPA’s strategic positioning in UN reform and inter-agency matters. S/he will explore, expand and manage partnerships and promote strategic collaboration with UN agencies and other stakeholders for positioning UNFPA’s mandate in intergovernmental, UNDS reform and UNSDG processes.

You Would Be Responsible for:

  • Prepare concise analytic reports, briefing notes/ updates for field and HQ staff on UNDS reform matters to keep all staff abreast of relevant developments in the inter-agency processes.
  • Providing logistical and programmatic support to senior management and other UNFPA staff in the inter-agency affairs. Developing briefing notes and other material to support UNFPA Senior Management’s participation in the UN Reform and inter-agency meetings. 
  • Maintaining and facilitating active engagement in inter-agency and UNDS reform processes across the organizational business units; country, regional and liaison offices. Facilitating interface with divisions on issues such as SDGs, UNSDCF and joint programmes, implementation, humanitarian, peace and development nexus; drawing key lessons and opportunities to influence internal policy discussions.
  • Represent UNFPA in the working level inter-agency fora related to UNDS Reform. Compile and maintain updated mapping of UN reform mechanisms and tables showing those responsible/focal points.
  • Manage internal and external communications in the team, including the UNDS Reform community. Providing guidance and maintaining communication with field colleagues on issues related to UN coherence
  • Act as a focal point for various team reports, manage entries to the internal  reporting systems, facilitate the development of the UNDS reform information notes and QCPR Annex to the Annual Report
  • Support the work of the UNFPA Inter-Divisional Working Group on UN Reform, including preparation of agenda, meetings reports, follow up on position papers by sub-groups etc.
  • Supporting the work to strengthen UNFPA’s engagement in the Decade of Action to deliver on the SDGs, organizing various capacity building and information events.

 

Knowledge and Experience:

  • 3 years of relevant professional experience, preferably with a UN agency.
  • Knowledge of external relations and the UN System; networking and advocacy and well as substantive areas of UNFPA’s work.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Experience in inter-agency coordination, facilitation and reporting is highly desirable.

Education:

Advanced university degree in Social Sciences, Political Science, International Relations or other relevant fields.

Languages:

Proficiency in English is required; Knowledge of an additional UN language is an asset

Compensation and Benefits
This position offers an attractive remuneration, paid in a monthly lump sum basis
