The Position:

UNFPA Evaluation Office (EO) is seeking a social media professional with proven social media and digital skills to manage EO’s social media channels and create content that reflects EO’s communication priorities. This position reports directly to the Communication and Knowledge Management Specialist at UNFPA Evaluation Office.

Duration:  11 months - Full-time remote work

Job Purpose:

In line with the 2018 review of the evaluation function, the UNFPA Evaluation Policy 2019 and the Evaluation Strategy 2018-2021, the Evaluation Office launched a strategy to enhance evaluation use through communications and knowledge management. The strategy provides a results-based framework to strengthen evaluation use at UNFPA and beyond through a strong focus on increased engagement with stakeholders, effective communication of evaluations and improved accessibility of evaluative knowledge. Digital communications including social media outreach is strong component that supports the roll out of the strategy, thereby enhancing the use of evaluation for decision-making, accountability and learning.

In addition, to propel the global evaluation community toward the achievement of the SDGs by 2030, the Evaluation Office also co-leads the Decade of EVALUATION for Action, also known as the Eval4Action campaign. The campaign uses social media outreach to deepen engagement with its 118 partners and mobilize action for influential evaluation.

You would be responsible for:

1.  Manage Evaluation Office’s Twitter handle, including:

  • Prepare high quality and timely Twitter content on new evaluation releases, key evaluation events, international advocacy days, news and events related to the Eval4Action campaign, including drafting tweets, developing accompanying visual content such as image cards, GIFs and videos as required;
  • Monitor other digital platforms for new content and information to retweet, share and/or adapt for Evaluation Office’s handle;
  • Based on the Evaluation Office Newsflash and Eval4Action newsletters, select the most interesting and appropriate content to tweet;
  • Research additional content around evaluation, SDGs and UNFPA mandate to create and curate content for tweeting;
  • Actively expand and engage with the network of followers, and sustain existing followers with timely and engaging content;
  • Prepare and set up twitter polls;
  • Maintain and update Evaluation Office’s social media editorial calendar.

2.  Support Twitter account of the Director of the Evaluation Office, including developing content and posting as required.

  • Develop and maintain relevant Twitter lists;
  • Engage with social media influencers on Twitter related to Evaluation Office’s mandate and Eval4Action objectives;
  • Monitor the Twitter account and prepare Twitter analytics on a monthly basis;
  • Support Twitter chats by identification of themes and support preparation by developing content and visuals, and moderate chats;
  • Manage Twitter coverage of Evaluation Office participation in international and regional virtual conferences including live tweet from events, such as (but not limited to) UNFPA Executive Board sessions and various Eval4Action events and those organized by various partners;
  • Support the Communications and Knowledge Management Specialist in preparing for and rolling out Twitter video drives, curating tweets, preparing graphics and other visual content.

3.  Manage YouTube channel of the Evaluation Office, uploading videos, creating playlists, and including undertaking simple editing of Evaluation Office videos if required.

4.  Support in creating other visual content for Evaluation Office and Eval4Action campaign as required such as infographics, presentations, newsletters, website graphics among others

5.  Other tasks as requested by the Communications and Knowledge Management Specialist.

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in the area of digital and social media communications, marketing/branding, public relations, preferably with a focus on international development;
  • Advanced university degree in communications, media, marketing or a related field;
  • Proven experience as a social media manager, managing various social media outlets, creating content, and measuring and interpreting social media analytics to inform strategies;
  • Demonstrated experience in building, engaging and maintaining online communities through social media strategies;
  • Demonstrated experience in writing, editing and creating high quality social media content, under tight deadlines and fast moving environments;
  • Must take initiative, be highly organized and have demonstrated ability to work in a team;
  • Strong editorial judgement, including ethical and political awareness;
  • Demonstrated experience is using graphic design platforms such as Canva and the Adobe suite (especially InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator) and other tools used for audio/visual content creation;
  • Fluency in English; knowledge of other official UN languages, preferably French and/or Spanish, is desirable.
