Position Summary:

The Digital-Social Media Communication Analyst position is located in the Media & Communications Branch of the Division of Communications and Strategic Partnerships (DCS) and reports directly to the Public Information Adviser in the media-outreach team. The incumbent is responsible for various activities related to digital and social media communications.

Job Purpose:

An organization’s reputation management and brand development is no longer limited to its own digital platforms and traditional media outreach. Positioning of UNFPA with new audiences, speaking with One Voice and improving the Fund’s digital and social media communications are priorities and central components in the new communications strategy of the organization endorsed by UNFPA’s Executive Committee in 2012. Starting in 2009, UNFPA intensified its digital and social media activities, focusing on reaching out to influential news sites, creating and maintaining UNFPA's very first youth community, building UNFPA's and the Executive Director’s presence on digital and social media platforms like The Huffington Post, Facebook and Twitter, supporting regional and country offices in social media outreach and running of major social media campaigns.

The purpose of the position is to ensure UNFPA’s position as a thought leader on our key issues, by:
- Positioning of UNFPA and its experts on leading digital media platforms;
- Effectively managing UNFPA’s outreach to digital media and coordinating the Fund’s existing social media platforms (Facebook, twitter, Google+, ED’s blogs and social media profiles);
- Engaging new audiences and sustaining existing stakeholders by developing and supporting new digital and social media initiatives, collaborations and campaigns.

Requirements:

Qualifications & Experience:

Education: 
• Advanced university degree in communications, public relations, international relations, public relations, journalism, or development studies is required.

Knowledge and Experience:

• 2 years of relevant work experience in digital and social media;
• Demonstrated experience as a professional blogger, including advanced and speedy writing and editing skills;
• Demonstrated thorough understanding of and competence in emerging trends, technology platforms, social behaviours and content that can help the organization create and maintain meaningful relationships with stakeholders, UN agencies, constituencies, donors, online communities, and development partners;
• Demonstrated experience in building and maintaining online communities, bringing together writers, contributors and participants from all over the world;
• Demonstrated intellectual capacity and understanding of digital and social media;
• Demonstrated experience in speedy writing and creating compelling online content, as well as a proven track record of placement and creative and innovative thinking – a new way of doing things;
• Demonstrated experience in mobilizing and engaging online audiences (particularly in developed and developing countries) through integrated digital and social media strategies;
• Advanced use of social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, Tumblr, Vimeo, YouTube;
• Initiative and sound judgment. Must be highly organized and have demonstrated ability to write quickly and work well under tight deadlines and in a team;
• Ability to lead the social media team in an innovative way. 

Languages:

• Fluency in English is a requirement. Knowledge of a second UN language desirable.
