Supervision

The intern reports to the Regional Communications Adviser at the UNFPA Regional Office for Eastern Europe and Central Asia (EECARO), and consults closely with the Technical Advisor on Gender.

 Duties and Responsibilities

The intern will assist the EECARO communications and gender teams through the scope of work as described below:

MenEngage platform

·       Support the coordination of the EECA MenEngage platform, an online space for experts, practitioners, civil society, government representatives, and other UN agencies for the engagement of men and boys in promoting gender equality and combating gender based violence.

·       Act as administrator to maintain the Platform webpage and help with the platform’s transition to the overall UNFPA content management system

·       Assist in collecting publications, resources and other materials from partners and making them available on the Platform

·       Propose, and provide research for, web stories and social media content such as images, quotes, infographics, featuring key milestones and achievements

·       Serve as a focal point  for the Regional MenCare Campaign

·       Conduct research (screening think tanks, academic institutions, private sector entities, international organizations, non-governmental organizations, arts and culture institutions) on external expertise (speakers, facilitators, coaches, other resource persons) to be shared on the EECA Men Engage Platform;

·       Maintain and expand the Platform’s social media presence, and ensure coherence and interlinkages with UNFPA EECARO’s other online and social media platforms.

·       Maintain a consistent look throughout all web properties by overseeing their design (ie: Facebook Timeline cover, profile pic, thumbnails, ads, landing pages, Twitter profile, and blog).

·       Monitor, review and respond to users’ feedback and comments in consultations with the gender team.

  Content generation and social media

·       Assist in creating simple but effective photo quotes and infographics for social media

·       Assist in locating social media focused content from UNFPA country offices, UN agencies and other partners’ postings

·       Assist in ensuring that the UNFPA website and social media are regularly updated with timely and relevant information. This includes helping adapt and repackage reports, news stories and other content for social media use.

·       Assist in creating social media strategies/packages for different projects.

Organizing communications and advocacy materials

·       Assist in collecting, organising, selecting and making use of powerful images and film/video for online feature stories and via social media

·       Assist in archiving such material for long-term use and reference purposes via EECARO’s growing multimedia library

General tasks

·       Support UNFPA to prepare materials and content, and assist with logistics, for major activities, launches, conferences and media outreach

·       Help monitor media coverage of UNFPA activities across Eastern Europe and Central Asia, including newspaper, broadcast media and web-based media, and liaise with Country Offices’ communications focal points on this front as required.

·       Provide other support and assistance as required

 Qualifications and Experience:

  • Currently enrolled in or having completed a Bachelor’s or equivalent degree in Communications, Journalism, or other related fields;
  • Demonstrable experience in social media communications;
  • Prior experience in the social development sector, including non-government organizations, government development agencies, and UN agencies (at global, regional or national level), either via assignments or other internships, is an asset
  • Strong communication skills: excellent listening skills and empathy, ability to write clearly and concisely
  • Spoken proficiency as well as excellent writing skills in English are mandatory;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office software, Adobe Creative Suite (esp. Photoshop, InDesign, Premiere) and other design or video editing programmes.
  • Strong organizational, communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work under pressure within an international setting;
  • Ability to adapt to new environments and to establish and maintain good working relations with individuals of different cultural backgrounds;
  • Ability to perform a variety of administrative tasks.
