Tasks and responsibilities
Working with the Strategic Sourcing and Outreach (SSO) Specialist, this role will support global sourcing and outreach activities to enhance UNFPA strategic partnerships including Young Innovators Fellowship Programme partners and the UNFPA /UN Volunteers Partnership.
Support design and implementation of Strategic Sourcing and outreach strategy:
- Assist in the implementation of global Strategic Sourcing and Outreach approaches incorporating use of social media applications (channel /look /feel/content);
- Support driving talent acquisition activities in partnership with HR Strategic Partners; coordinate implementation of the SSO strategy e.g. choosing the channels and coordinating global outreach activities;
- Provide HR Strategic Partners and management with effective market strategies, organizational employer branding and use of media in order to increase the quality and quantity of prospective candidates;
Young Innovators Fellowship Programme:
- Support the successful conclusion of the Young Innovators Fellowship Programme pilot; a 12 month fellowship focused on Innovation and hosted in HQ / Regional Offices / Country Offices
- Enhance the learning and development curriculum for the Fellows during their term in HQ
- Liaise with UN agencies and external organizations focused on innovation to coordinate onsite and offsite workshops and events which facilitate the Fellows’ learning at minimal cost
- Manage the mentoring program as part of the Fellowship – source innovative entrepreneurs from diverse industries, create programme guidelines and monitor effectiveness of the Programme.
Develop and promote internal and external communication tools and platforms related to UNFPA’s partnership with UNV:
- Support video production to promote UN Volunteers, including filming, editing and uploading;
- Support the update and maintenance of the UNFPA-/UNV Partnership intranet page;
- Assist in the development of standard operating procedures and other relevant communication tools on how to deploy a UN Volunteer within UNFPA – including best practices for types of assignments;
- Coordinate events/ webinars/ workshops related to volunteerism at UNFPA;
Qualifications and Experience
- Experience in Human Resources, in particular related to sourcing, recruitment, branding, and workforce planning is desirable;
- Knowledge of social media and traditional media applications;
- Competence in the delivery of innovative and cost-effective sourcing, branding and outreach in a complex multicultural environment is desirable;
- Excellent writing and communication skills;
- Experience in supporting project management and implementation of initiatives is desirable;
- Excellent client service skills;
- Can-do attitude;
- Ability to integrate in teams.
Duration: 3 months (with a possibility to extend to 6 months in total)
Time: The work will be a minimum of 3 days- full time (Monday-Friday, 9:30 am- 5:30 pm). Beginning July 2017 (flexible)
Languages: Fluency in written and spoken English is mandatory, other official languages of the UN desirable.
Other Desirable Skills: Initiative; sound judgment; strong interest in development work, especially the mission of the United Nations Population Fund; and dedication to the principles of the United Nations.

Upon completion of the assignment, and depending on its duration, the Intern should be able to:
- Write and formulate key reporting and communication documents
- Gain an increased understanding of the UN system
- Understand UNFPA’s HR Strategy
- Understand human resources technical language and working procedures particularly as regards Strategic Sourcing and Outreach within the UN
- Network with UNFPA Colleagues
- Work as a team member in a multicultural setting
