Job Summary

The International Coordinator (Women Protection) is located in Sana’a. Under the overall direction of the UNFPA Representative for Yemen and direct supervision of Deputy Representative, the incumbent will be responsible for Gender/ GBV prevention and response programme coordination & monitoring, including GBV IMS and GBV coordination in humanitarian situations.  The International Coordinator (Women Protection) works in close collaboration with Programme Officers, Operations staff and counterparts at the Regional Office and HQ. The incumbent works in an integrated manner with other UN Organizations, technical staff in host government and civil society organizations to ensure successful implementation of UNFPA- supported Gender/ GBV prevention and response programmes. During the humanitarian crisis, International Coordinator (Women Protection) works in partnerships with other cluster coordinators and chairs the GBV sub cluster.

The primary roles of the International Coordinator (Women Protection) are:

  • Gender/ GBV prevention and response programme coordination & monitoring 
  • GBV coordination in humanitarian situations, including GBV IMS;
  • Strengthening  of  CO’s  strategic  partnerships 

Responsibilities of the International Coordinator (Women Protection) include: to support the implementation of the UNFPA Yemen Gender/ GBV prevention and response programme  by undertaking leadership on programme coordination and monitoring, including GBV coordination during the crisis; to identify new and emerging needs and optimize  GBV prevention and response by introducing quick wins and other approaches ; to develop and maintain partnerships among other agencies, clusters andwithin the Protection Cluster as part of humanitarian response;

Education: 

Advanced degree in social work or other social sciences, public health, community health, international relations, international law, human rights or related field;

Knowledge and Experience:

  • A minimum of 7 years of experience in gender issues and their application in international humanitarian or development settings;
  • Practical experience in GBV programme development and management and technical knowledge and experience in GBV prevention and response using a survivor-centered approach highly desirable
  • Experience in humanitarian coordination particularly in area of GBV is required;
  • Previous experience with the GBV IMS is highly desirable
  • Knowledge of the humanitarian reform process and roles/responsibilities of humanitarian actors;
  • Awareness and demonstrable knowledge of gender issues and their relevance in humanitarian emergency settings;
  •  Demonstrable knowledge of reproductive health issues and/or protection issues in humanitarian settings,  and of humanitarian emergency operations and roles/responsibilities of humanitarian actors;
  •  Experience working directly with survivors of GBV is recommended
  •  Experience in program management;

Languages: Proficiency in English. Advanced Arabic is an asset
