1. Organizational Location
The position of Knowledge Management Adviser sits in the Commodity Security Branch (CSB), and reports to the Chief, CSB, Technical Division (TD).
The Technical Adviser applies an integrated approach to develop, formulate and disseminate key flagship messaging and communication for Phase III of the UNFPA Supplies Programme.
The Technical Adviser works with an interdisciplinary team within the TD. S/he liaises with other technical and programme staff in Media and Communications Branch, Resource Mobilization Branch, Programme Division, Regional Offices, and Country Offices.
2. Job Requirements
UNFPA Supplies – a multilateral, multi-donor, UNFPA-managed thematic trust fund –is the world’s largest provider of donated contraceptives. The programme provides over 40 percent of all contraceptives donated to developing countries and helps strengthen health systems to deliver them. Since its inception in 2007, the programme has mobilized over US$1 billion to support national action to expand access to family planning for millions of the world’s poorest women and girls. UNFPA Supplies is uniquely positioned to support countries in their efforts to ensure universal health coverage (UHC), helping to build stronger, integrated health systems that will ensure access to and use of rights-based family planning services, contraceptives, and maternal health medicines.
UNFPA Supplies is governed through a tiered committee structure made up of key programme stakeholders and donors that provides strategic direction and management oversight. A Steering Committee approves programme strategy and key documents based on recommendations from three targeted sub-committees with deeper engagement and subject-matter expertise on finance & risk, strategy & planning, and human resources. Broader stakeholder input and engagement is achieved through annual Partner Assembly meetings.
The Technical Adviser applies an integrated approach to develop, formulate and disseminate key messaging for the UNFPA Supplies Programme, generated from programme implementation and reports. S/he will be responsible to provide strategic guidance for communication and advocacy, through research, analysis and documentation of programme priorities of UNFPA Supplies Programme.
Responsibilities of the Technical Adviser include:
This role would responsible for producing flagship publications of the UNFPA Supplies programme and for providing key communication and dissemination of programme priorities and results in the Phase III of the programme.
This post will also provide strategic advice and oversight for effective external relations messages including print, video and web as part of implementation of Phase III of the Supplies Programme. In all activities, s/he fosters collaboration within TD, with the Resource Mobilization Unit, with Media and Communications Branch, with Procurement Services Branch, with Regional offices, and with the UNFPA Technical network, ensuring the timeliness, adequacy and relevance and quality of substantive output of messages.
The primary roles of the Technical Adviser for Reproductive Health Commodities are:
• Strategic technical support, monitoring and oversight
• Evidence generation and knowledge development and dissemination
• Advocacy and Communication
• Technical representation
Education: Advanced University Degree, or equivalent, in health education, journalism, communication and advocacy, public information, public health, sociology, gender, or other related field.
Knowledge and Experience:
• 10 years of increasingly responsible professional experience and technical expertise in evidence-based advocacy, strategic communication, writing, editing and publication of annual reports especially relating to population, gender and reproductive health
• Substantive experience and knowledge of reproductive health commodity security, family planning and maternal health
• Strong track record of documentation and publications work and proven ability to produce on deadline
• Experience in external relations within UNFPA or the UN System
• Basic graphic design skills and familiarity with design software are desirable
• Strong analytical, report-writing and communication skills are required
Fluency in English is required. Working knowledge of another official UN language is an added advantage
