Position Summary:

The post is located in the Media and Communications Branch (MCB), Division of Communications and Strategic Partnerships (DCS) and reports to the Chief of MCB.

• Develops, leads and aggressively executes effective global communications strategies and campaigns aimed at raising visibility, and awareness of the brand and work of UNFPA, particularly for key thematic areas, such as maternal health and family planning. Develops pithy messages for use by UNFPA staff when working with partners, especially the press, both traditional and digital media.

• Develops creative and innovative ways to market and pitch UNFPA, including in the field of maternal health and family planning. Develops relationships with global digital and global media, advertising agencies and other private-sector partners to explore opportunities for visibility campaigns. Supervises creative development and production of communications materials.

Requirements:

Education: 

• Advanced university degree in marketing, digital marketing, public relations or advertising is required;

Qualifications & Experience:

• 7 years of experience at national and international level.
• Proven ability to develop effective communications strategies and campaigns to promote an organization, such as UNFPA, and its work;
• Knowledge of content creation and digital marketing, of public relations tools and techniques, and of the entire publication or production processes, including digital publishing or production excellent writing skills.
• Proven track record in generating substantial media coverage and managing high-visibility campaigns or projects.
• Knowledge of social media best practices, content creation and marketing, and basic monitoring skills.
• Excellent interpersonal, communication, negotiation, and managerial skills required. Self-starter, proactive, passion for the issues. Team leader and team builder.
• Strong skills in pitching stories to media, social media influencers, bloggers or vloggers. Strong project management skills. Ability to manage time, prioritize (according to organizational priorities).
Desirable:
• Experience in direct advertising/marketing, public relations, public information, and digital marketing experience would be a clear advantage.
• Knowledge of public relations or marketing skills; familiarity with approaches for planning, executing and monitoring communications strategies and campaigns desirable.
