Job Purpose
Under the supervision of the UNFPA Representative and in close collaboration with the programme team, the Communication Analyst is responsible for leading the design, planning, and implementation of the CO Communication and Advocacy Strategy in line with UNFPA corporate standards and policy.
The Communication Officer will ensure visibility and manage all aspects of external advocacy and visibility and communications of UNFPA Mozambique, in full compliance with the UNFPA Global Communication Strategy and corporate guidelines. Success, innovation, programme impact and knowledge produced by UNFPA will be communicated to target audiences through print media, broadcast media companies, social media, knowledge products, high-profile events, etc.
Job Summary
His/her duties will include mobilizing mass media, systematically developing communication contents and activities for UNFPA according to the Country Programme 2017-2020 Communication and Advocacy Strategy. S/he will also draft press materials, organize internal and external events, develop a professional network and partnerships with key media companies, communication groups, and social figures.
S/he maintains close cooperation with partners in the UN system, in the government, civil society and international agencies to ensure synergies in line with the UN’s Delivering as One approach. Additionally, s/he participates in relevant meetings and events to share knowledge, exchange practices and provide inputs to organizational processes.
Education:
- Masters’ degree in social sciences, communications, public health, and/or other related subjects.
Experience:
- Minimum 3 years of working experience with national or international organizations,
- Minimum 1 year of experience in preparing documents, communication materials, events, and coordination between a large number of partners;
- Experience in working with government institutions, NGOs and/or UN;
- Experience in drafting reports for multilateral or bilateral donor agencies;
- Experience in managing websites as well as social media content;
- Excellent written and spoken English and Portuguese.
- Good knowledge of media and public relations.
- Understanding of the UN system in general, and UNFPA´s mandate, as well as the current development topics and socio-economic culture and political issues in Mozambique.
- Familiarity with population issues, sexual and reproductive health and rights of women and young people (including adolescents).
- Experience in working in the health sector, especially Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights, would be an asset
- Proficiency in current office software applications
Languages:
- Excellent oral and written communications and editing skills in English, Portuguese and other local languages.
- Knowledge of other UN languages an asset
