Position summary:

The Programme Assistant is located in the decentralized sub-office in Maungdaw and reports to the Programme Analyst GBV/ Head of sub-office.

The current programme focus areas include Rakhine, Kachin and Northern Shan States and Kayin state with additional technical support to other areas in the South East including Kayah and Mon States. Myanmar is vulnerable to a wide range of natural disasters and it is one of the most at-risk countries in Asia-Pacific Region. While the country’s coastal regions are particularly exposed to cyclones, tropical storms and tsunamis, rainfall-induced flooding is a recurring phenomenon across the country. The whole country is at risk from earthquakes, droughts and fires, while the country’s mountainous regions are also exposed to landslide risks.

Under overall guidance of the UNFPA Deputy Representative, with direct supervision of Programme Analyst, GBV/ Head of Sub-Office, and in close coordination with the CO team in Yangon, the incumbent provides programme, administrative and financial support to the field based team in compliance with UNFPA policies and procedures

Requirements:

Qualifications and Experience

Education:

Completion of secondary level education required. First level university degree desirable.
Knowledge and Experience: 
5 years previous relevant experience in programme/project management;
Previous experience in the UN is an asset;
Strong interpersonal and organizational skills;
Computer literacy - Word, Excel, Power-point, etc.;
Good writing and communication skills;
Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment
Working experience in respective sub-office is an asset;
Knowledge on the local context is desirable.
Languages:
Fluency in oral and written English and Myanmar is essential with ability to write clearly and concisely and to compose correspondence and documents in both languages. Knowledge of local languages in Rakhine is an asset.
