PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS VACANCY IS ONLY FOR NATIONALS OF BANGLADESH.
The Position:
The Progamme Specialist, Population and Development (P&D) is located in Bangladesh Country Offices (CO) and reports to the Deputy Representative.
How you can make a difference:
UNFPA is the lead UN agency for delivering a world where every pregnancy is wanted, every childbirth is safe and every young person's potential is fulfilled. UNFPA’s new strategic plan (2018-2021), focuses on three transformative results: to end preventable maternal deaths; end unmet need for family planning; and end gender-based violence and harmful practices.
In a world where fundamental human rights are at risk, we need principled and ethical staff, who embody these international norms and standards, and who will defend them courageously and with full conviction.
UNFPA is seeking candidates that transform, inspire and deliver high impact and sustained results; we need staff who are transparent, exceptional in how they manage the resources entrusted to them and who commit to deliver excellence in programme results.
Job Purpose:
The global Agenda 2030 including the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) adopted in September 2015 by all UN Member States, call for a life of dignity for all, through development pathways that integrate the economic, social and environmental aspects of human lives. UN Member States including Bangladesh also re-affirmed that the Programme of Action from the 1994 International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD) is an “unfinished agenda” that is still relevant to all countries, and UN Member States expressed their full commitment to carrying forward the ICPD PoA. The collection, analysis and effective utilization of population data are increasingly important, especially in realizing the imperative of Agenda 2030 to “reach those furthest behind first” and “leave no one behind.” A people-centred and gender-responsive approach to sustainable development demands the realization of sexual and reproductive health and reproductive rights, equality and equity, and empowerment of women and young people, to reach their full potential, and requires policies and actions that are informed by a systematic analysis of population dynamics and its implications for a more sustainable development and a more equitable growth.
