The Regional Programme Specialist post is located in the Arab States Regional Office, Cairo, Egypt. The incumbent reports directly to the Regional Population and Development Adviser. Under the guidance and leadership of the Adviser, the incumbent will coordinate and support day-to-day requirements of the P&D thematic area, and work closely with the P&D program assistant and other advisers and specialists in overseeing various components of the regional programme. S/He will be part of an inter-disciplinary team and will ensure that this support and guidance is provided to countries on P&D in an integrated, coordinated and timely manner.
Qualification and Experience
Advanced university degree or equivalent in demography, statistics, population studies, economics, sociology or other field directly related to the substantive area identified in the title of the post.
5 years of increasingly responsible professional experience in management and development relevant to population and development, sexual and reproductive health, and gender, of which three at the international level.
Substantive knowledge and practical experience in population and development, data and statistical methods, census conduction, population, sexual and reproductive health, and gender programming.
Field experience is a strong asset.
Strong communications and writing skills in English; working knowledge of Arabic and/or French is desirable.
Experience in programme and/or technical assistance with UNFPA.
