The Position:
The Programme/Technical Adviser post is located in the Response and Technical Support Unit (RSTU), Humanitarian Office, Geneva. Under the direct supervision of the Director, Humanitarian Office, the post coordinates and supervises the work of the integrated, multidisciplinary technical team in the RTSU charged with providing technical and capacity support to emergency response in humanitarian settings, especially scale-up countries. S/He supervises the work of RTSU thematic team in the areas of sexual and reproductive health, gender-based violence, youth, humanitarian data, and cash-based interventions and coordinates the provision of technical and programmatic support to the field, including promoting humanitarian mainstreaming efforts.
Qualification and Experience:
Education:
Advanced University Degree in gender studies, social anthropology, law and women’s rights, sociology, cultural studies, public health, demography, socio-economics, or other fields directly related to the substantive area.
Knowledge and Experience:
- 10 years of increasingly responsible professional experience in the area of SRH, of which seven years at the international level;
- An acknowledged expert and recognized authority in the area of SRH and Reproductive Rights in humanitarian settings
- Proven experience in family planning and maternal health;
- Proven field experience working in humanitarian settings
- Health systems experience, health reform, an asset;
- Knowledge and understanding of the quality of care, specifically client rights issues an asset;
- Up-to-date on state-of-the-art technical knowledge, essential
- Understanding of Human Rights dimensions of SRH, GBV and gender, an asset;
- Strong track record of technical leadership, and proven ability to produce demonstrable results;
- Extensive network within the academic, humanitarian and development community.
Languages:
Fluency in English and French is required. Working knowledge of another official UN language is desirable.
