This position is based in Nairobi with extensive travel to the field. The candidate will work under the overall guidance of the UNFPA Deputy Representative and direct supervision of the Population and Development Program Manager. The Data Management Assistant will contribute to the co-ordination and management of quality, timely and integrated programme and technical support to national statistical and related institutions. The incumbent will support national mechanisms for a multi-sectoral approach to capacity development of population and socio-economic statistics in Somalia, ensure that that UNFPA’s programs on population and development are implemented in the context of the ICPD Programme of Action and UNFPA Strategic Plan; and ensure that Population and Development issues are firmly placed within national development processes and national strategic frameworks.

Education

Secondary education

University Degree in IT, Computer Science, Information Technology or quantitative field  desirable

Knowledge and Experience:

A minimum of three years of experience in the compilation, analysis of population, reproductive health and socio-economic data.

Experience with the UN’s mandate, programs, and operational activities in relating to statistics work.

Ability to use CSPro, SPSS, Stata, Microsoft Access databases i.e. enter data, update records and fields, modify database structure, generate customized reports

Experience in writing and maintaining database design documentation and operating     manuals.

Significant experience analyzing data.

Have some experience in data archiving.

Proven experience using the PeopleSoft / Atlas Enterprise Resource System in financial management is a distinct advantage.
