This position is based in Nairobi with extensive travel to the field. The candidate will work under the overall guidance of the UNFPA Deputy Representative and direct supervision of the Population and Development Program Manager. The Program Assistant will contribute to the co-ordination and management of quality, timely and integrated programme and technical support to national statistical and related institutions. The incumbent will support national mechanisms for a multi-sectoral approach to capacity development of population and socio-economic statistics in Somalia, ensure that that UNFPA’s programs on population and development are implemented in the context of the ICPD Programme of Action and UNFPA Strategic Plan; and ensure that Population and Development issues are firmly placed within national development processes and national strategic frameworks.

Education

Completed Secondary Level Education required

University Degree in social sciences desirable.

Knowledge and Experience:

A minimum of three years of experience in administration, office management and administration and logistics.

Proficiency in MS Office software applications (Particularly Word and Excel)

Experience with the UN’s mandate, programs, and operational activities in relating to statistics work.

Experience in documentation and archiving is desirable

Experience working with Somalia authorities is desirable.

Proven experience using the PeopleSoft / Atlas Enterprise Resource System in financial management is a distinct advantage.
