Position Summary:
The Programme Lead would help identify country needs and strategies for the PBF program, using an evidence-based approach and RBM practices for decision-making.
He/she would be tasked to provide technical guidance, including program oversight, and management for the overall PBF project including monitoring IPs, supervision of field implementation in addition to providing capacity building to IPs for effective program delivery.
The Lead would also be expected to provide technical expertise in the conceptualize of innovative interventions that are results-oriented and drive UNFPA strategic priorities. He/she would be required to engage partners in conceptual and methodological innovation and enable inter-agency collaboration and integration. He/she is would contribute to UN-wide monitoring and evaluation activities of the PBF programme and also reporting in accordance with the reporting requirements of the PBF. Whilst he/she would be housed at the UNFPA Country Office in the UN House in Bakau, for effective monitoring of the programme he/she would be expected to travel to project sites across the country when required.

Job Purpose:
The Programme Manager, Women and Youth Peace Building Project is located in The Gambia Country Office (CO).
Under overall guidance and supervision of the Representative and direct supervision of the Assistant Representative, the Programme Manager for the PBF program provides technical and strategic guidance in the development quality programs to ensure that UNFPA’s institutional priorities and programming guidelines are taken into account at the country-level PBF programming processes and in alignment with UN coordinated processes.
Qualifications and Experience:
Education:
- Advanced degree or equivalent in peace studies, gender, social sciences, social work and/or other related field.
Knowledge and Experience:
- Three years of increasingly responsible professional experience in peace building, social work, women or youth empowerment or other related social work;
- Substantive knowledge and practical experience in peace building, women empowerment and related development work; experience in community mobilization to build social cohesion is an asset;
- Knowledge on monitoring indicators for population and development and gender;
- Experience in the coordination of UN funded or similar projects;
- Client oriented and strong team work;
- Strong communications and writing skills in English and fluency in some local languages;
- Proficiency in current office software applications.
