Position Summary:

Under the overall supervision of UNFPA Representative and direct supervision of the RH Technical Specialist, the Technical Specialist-Emergency Obstetrics and Newborn Care (EmONC) provides technical and programmatic leadership in terms of UNFPA policy and strategy related to the EmONC, , and contributes to policy making and strategies related to integration of EmONC into sexual and reproductive/maternal health. 

Requirements and Qualifications:

  • Medical degree with a Masters in public health or related fields. Specialization in obstetrics is a strong asset.
  • At least 7 years’ experience  with at least 3 years in the area of international development including public health, preferably sexual and reproductive health
  • Knowledge and experience on implementing large scale EmONC programmes is an asset
  • Demonstrated ability to translate technical guidelines into programming steps in resource-poor settings and across different contexts
  • Excellent writing abilities, with strong analytical skills
  • Experience working in a developing country is preferred
  • Experience of working with UNFPA or the United Nations is desirable
  • Fluency in English, verbal and written
