The Position:

The Programme Analyst provides liaison, research and analytical support for the three transformative results costing and impact modelling exercises. The Programme Analyst post is located in the Policy, Strategic Information and Planning Branch (PSIPB), Policy and Strategy Division, New York.

You will report directly to the Data Specialist under the overall supervision of the Chief, PSIPB.

Job Purpose:

UNFPA Strategic Plan, 2018-2021, seeks to advance three transformative results in all contexts of operations, which are institutional contributions to the achievement of the 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals. The organization commissioned a team of experts to conduct a costing exercise towards an appreciation of the global burden being addressed through the transformative results and what it will take to tackle the challenges by 2030. 

The Programme Analyst provides secretariat support for the costing exercise for the three transformative results, the ICPD within the 2030 Agenda and related activities. S/He contributes to nurturing partnerships with the academic and think-tanks on various research-related issues, such as the impact measurement, and establishing related modelling parameters. Working in close collaboration with the team responsible for results reporting, the incumbent provides analytical data inputs in support of the mid-term review of Strategic Plan, 2018-2021.  

S/He conducts background socio-economic and research, data collection and sources for research on strategic initiatives managed by PSD. S/He supports the strategic plan reporting process with basic statistical analysis and quality assurance of qualitative components.

 

Qualifications and Experience

Education: 

Advanced university degree (M.A.) in public health, social sciences, humanitarian practice, international development, or related discipline. 

 Knowledge and Experience:

  • Minimum 5 years of experience working preferably in academic research, population and development, international development, and in the production and use of statistics and results monitoring in social sector areas, results-based management and results planning, monitoring and reporting systems;
  • Experience needed in programme development, coordination and management and reporting;
  • Good knowledge of results-based management approach
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, creativity, strong project management skills, partnership building, a positive and outgoing personality, and ability to interact successfully with people of different backgrounds and cultures.

Languages:

  • Excellent command of English;
  • Working knowledge of any other official UN languages, preferably French and/or Spanish, is an asset.
