UNITED NATIONS, New York – With less than 900 days remaining to reach the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), the Forum brings together a High-Level Panel to discuss what needs to be done to rapidly accelerate the achievement of MDG5 (improve maternal health). Although progress has been made, MDG5 falls far short of agreed targets. Reaching MDG5 requires focusing on proven interventions to reduce maternal death and achieve universal access to reproductive health, including family planning, by 2015 and beyond.

A Q&A session, including live tweets, will follow the interventions by the panellists.

Panellists:

  • Ban Ki-moon, United Nations Secretary-General
  • Joyce Banda, President, Malawi
  • Ray Chambers, United Nations Secretary-General’s Special Envoy for Financing the Health MDGs and for Malaria
  • Dr. Babatunde Osotimehin, UNFPA, Executive Director
  • Dr. A.F.M. Ruhal Haque, Minister of Health and Family Welfare, Bangladesh
  • Dr. Kesetebirhan Admasu, Minister of Health, Ethiopia
  • Dr. Onyebuchi Chukwu, Minister of Health, Nigeria
  • Anuradha Gupta, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, India

When: Monday, 23 September 2013, 11 a.m.-12.30 p.m.
Where: Conference Room 1 (CR1), Conference Building, UN Headquarters

The event will be live streamed on the UNFPA website:
