Ashley Judd was one of the “silence breakers” named by Time magazine as Person of the Year 2017. This designation makes us even prouder than ever to be working with Ms. Judd as UNFPA Goodwill Ambassador. Her bravery, tenacity and persistence have helped embolden women and men from all races, all income classes, all occupations, and virtually all corners of the globe to break their silence. We begin to see the end of impunity.

At UNFPA, we are fighting to end all harmful practices against women and girls by 2030. Sexual harassment, just like all other forms of violence and abuse against women and girls, is one of the most prevalent, yet unreported, of these harmful practices.

As the Time article rightly says, "this reckoning appears to have sprung up overnight. But it has actually been simmering for years, decades, centuries." Now, with Ms. Judd’s help, at last the tide is turning! UNFPA is fully committed to standing with Ms. Judd and the billions of women and girls she represents, and we look forward to continuing our journey with her. We are making progress, but we still have a very long way to go.
