A new Expression of Interest

This framework outlines the quality standards and requirements of the RH commodities procured by UNFPA; describes the quality assurance processes before, during and after procurement; recommends actions to be taken on receipt of the commodities; and suggests considerations to be borne in mind throughout the supply chain, before use of the commodities.

The following document provides UNFPA’s technical requirements in the procurement of medical devices (medical equipment, renewable medical supplies, and medical kits excluding pharmaceuticals that might accompany kits). It is intended to give to submitters all the necessary information for them to complete understandable and homogenous dossiers.  From a general standpoint, UNFPA’s technical requirements are based on the current standards and regulations, for both the manufacturer’s quality assurance and devices compliance.

Specific environment goals are described in the UNFPA Green Procurement Strategy. It outlines (a) the environmental focus areas for which UNFPA would like to set up requirements and (b) the process through which suppliers are expected to demonstrate that they meet these requirements. To make improvements, suppliers can exercise influence in four parts of their organisation: at the site level (operation of site and production), in their own supply chain, in their products and in relation to end users.

These guidelines provide advice on the management of the supply of reproductive health kits to affected populations in emergency situations. Reproductive health kits are comprised of medicines, disposable items and equipment and are designed for use at the onset of humanitarian response efforts. Based on the standards of international organisations and good practice from the field, it outlines a series of procedures on how these humanitarian supplies should be managed at each stage of the logistical chain.

UNFPA maintains stock of 18 different essential reproductive health kits (RH Kits), ready to ship for urgent and emergency requests. The kits are divided into three blocks, and are designed to respond to three month's need for various population sizes. The individual kits are small enough and have convenient packaging, enabling them to be handled by one or two people. All boxes are clearly marked on the outside with the kit number, a distinct color for each kit, as well as a description of contents, consignee and other relevant information.
