Saving lives during childbirth in rural Al Hudaydah

With support from the European Union Humanitarian Aid, UNFPA is expanding reproductive health services in rural health facilities to ensure health pregnancies and safe deliveries during childbirth. 

These three midwifery case studies from Bangladesh, Ethiopia and South Sudan document the significant catalytic impact the Maternal Health Thematic Fund has had in comprehensively strengthening midwifery education, associations, regulations and policy in an integrated manner.

This has generated additional national and donor interest and commitment, thereby bringing financial stability and sustainability. It is also influencing national scale-up of midwifery programmes in several countries.
