Promoting safe pregnancy in remote Myanmar

When Hlei was pregnant with her third child, her midwife detected a serious complication. Every year, 2,800 women in Myanmar die in childbirth and pregnancy, but Hlei survived. The correct diagnosis by a skilled midwife saved her life. UNFPA supports midwifery training in Myanmar, and is helping the government expand the midwifery workforce, with the goal of ensuring every mother has access to skilled care.
