In Burkina Faso, a mentoring programme for midwives is saving the lives of women and newborns. 

Sham was born the day after her mother was evacuated from Daryaa, Syria. Her mother was transferred by the Syrian Arab Red Crescent to the hospital so she could give birth safely.

After Sham was delivered, she and her mother were moved to the Hirjaleh shelter, where they have been receiving UNFPA-provided medical care and support.
