2gether 4 SRHR: : Fast tracking the attainment of sexual and reproductive health and rights in Eastern and Southern Africa

The joint programme “2gether 4 SRHR: Fast tracking the attainment of sexual and reproductive health and rights in Eastern and Southern Africa” is a collaborative initiative tackling the complex challenges linked to ensuring healthy lives and promoting the well-being for all at all ages. Since 2018, UNAIDS, UNFPA, UNICEF, and WHO have been implementing this transformative programme across Eastern and Southern Africa. However, despite significant progress made in the region in strengthening sexual and reproductive health and rights, progress is inconsistent, with some areas benefiting faster than others. This is due to persistent challenges, such as restrictive laws and policies, limited domestic and donor investments in areas of sexual and reproductive health and rights, weak health systems, restrictive social and cultural norms, humanitarian crises and socioeconomic instability linked to rising inequality and poverty.

Funded by the Government of Sweden, Phase II of this project (running from 2023-2027) builds on past achievements to accelerate progress and deepen impact. The initiative is guided by a “leave no one behind” commitment, ensuring all individuals benefit equitably. The key outcomes of the project will be:

  • Strengthening legal, policy and financial environments to enable beneficiaries to access services and realize their sexual and reproductive health and rights;
  • Increasing access to and utilization of quality, people-centered and integrated sexual and reproductive health services;
  • Addressing gender and social norms as well as behavioral drivers for the realization of sexual and reproductive health and rights for all;
  • Enabling resilient health systems and communities to ensure the continuity of sexual and reproductive health and rights services during crises.

This initiative underscores the transformative power of investing in women and youth as catalysts for change, economic growth, and poverty reduction. By supporting 2gether 4 SRHR, you help create a healthier, more equitable future for all.
