The Position:

In August 2017, there was an influx of Rohingya refugees from Rakhine, Myamar into Cox Bazar district, Bangladesh. Currently, we have a total of 1.2 million affected persons (refugees and host communities). More than half of these new arrivals are women and girls. Refugees, especially women and girls are being disproportionately affected by GBV including rape, conflict-related sexual violence, intimate partner violence, sex trafficking and commercial sexual exploitation, child and forced marriages, and sexual exploitation.

As humanitarian actors have scaled up their operations in Cox’s Bazar district to respond to the needs of this vast population influx, UNFPA is providing GBV and SRH services to meet the health and protection needs of women and girls who have experienced violence, denial of reproductive health rights and resources, and serious psychological distress.  UNFPA’s interventions include host communities, where local women and girls also face protection risks and have low access to public services for GBV, SRH, and mental health care.  Improved information management is necessary to support humanitarian programming strategies and funding processes, and to prepare reporting materials for internal and external distribution.

How you can make a difference:

UNFPA is the lead UN agency for delivering a world where every pregnancy is wanted, every childbirth is safe and every young person's potential is fulfilled.  UNFPA’s new strategic plan (2018-2021), focuses on three transformative results: to end preventable maternal deaths; end unmet need for family planning; and end gender-based violence and harmful practices.

In a world where fundamental human rights are at risk, we need principled and ethical staff, who embody these international norms and standards, and who will defend them courageously and with full conviction.

UNFPA is seeking candidates that transform, inspire and deliver high impact and sustained results; we need staff who are transparent, exceptional in how they manage the resources entrusted to them and who commit to deliver excellence in programme results.
