Job Summary

Under the direct supervision of the Head of Office for UNFPA Jordan CO the Humanitarian Coordinator will assist the Country Office in the planning, coordination and implementation of humanitarian interventions, including rapid assessments, resource mobilization, staffing, and technical areas of intervention.

The post is based in Amman- Jordan; with frequent travels within the country/Region.

Job Purpose

Emergency preparedness and humanitarian response was integrated within UNFPA’s 8th country programme 2013-2017 as it is a very important function for the implementation of the JCO programme. UNFPA in line with the global strategy contributes to; strengthening national capacity to provide sexual and reproductive health services, gender based violence prevention, detection and response, in addition to production of data related to humanitarian settings.

Under overall supervision of the Head of Office, Humanitarian Coordinator will oversee UNFPA’s humanitarian response and preparedness activities in camps, host communities, the Berm (borders) and cross-border operations. S/he will work in close collaboration with national authorities, humanitarian agencies (UN and international NGOs) and national partners and civil society organizations to strengthen emergency preparedness and provide humanitarian assistance to crisis affected communities in a manner consistent with the methodology outlined in the Inter-Agency Standing Committee Gender Handbook in Humanitarian Action.   The Humanitarian Coordinator has to assure coordination and linkages between regular and emergency programme and to ensure integration of UNFPA mandate within all resilience strategic plans.

Education: 

Advanced degree preferably in medicine, public health, social sciences, international relations or other related field.

Knowledge and Experience:

  •        7 years of relevant professional experience in coordinating, developing and implementing humanitarian interventions in crisis settings.       
  •        Knowledge of the humanitarian reform process and roles/responsibilities of humanitarian actors.
  •        Experience with MISP implementation and RH Emergency Kits.
  •        Strong analytical, coordination and organizational skills.
  •        Proven ability to lead and manage teams to achieve demonstrable results.
  •        Strong interest in development work, especially the mission of the United Nations Population Fund and dedication to the principles of the United Nations; and,
  •        Field experience is a strong asset.
