Academia

UNFPA believes that investing in academic and educational institutions is vital to meet the challenges ahead.

Universities serve as incubators of new ideas, projects and solutions to reaffirm faith in fundamental rights and leave no one behind. They also play a pivotal role in engaging academics, scientists, researchers and students in generating the knowledge, analysis and expertise needed to meet the Sustainable Development Goals and, precisely, UNFPA’s three transformative results.

To meet the “three zeros” by 2030: zero preventable maternal deaths, zero unmet need for family planning, and zero gender-based violence, including child marriage and other harmful practices, UNFPA created and formally launched a university network called TransformU.

The TransformU network is a collaborative system that encourages cooperation among members by developing opportunities to exchange knowledge and best practices. This platform, led by UNFPA, is a prominent mechanism to enrich knowledge generation and dissemination, policy guidance, capacity building and leadership development.

To date, the network accounts for more than 115 members that share a vision of realizing UNFPA’s mandate.

How we work with Academia

  • Widen knowledge

To spread awareness of UNFPA programmes and activities to the members.

  • Outreach and Visibility

Outreach to new academic institutions and student groups to participate in advancing UNFPA's mandate and organizing events to promote knowledge exchange within the network.

  • Developing research

We provide a platform where university students and academics can co-create research and resources addressing UNFPA’s Transformative Results.
