Supporting the achievement of Universal Health Coverage in the Kingdom of Morocco

Funded by the Government of Japan, UNICEF, WHO, and UNFPA combined their expertise to advance Morocco’s health system reform and accelerate progress toward Universal Health Coverage. The joint programme “Supporting the achievement of Universal Health Coverage in the Kingdom of Morocco” aimed to ensure that all Moroccans, especially women and children, could access high-quality, equitable health and nutrition services.

Building on the strengths of each agency and in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and Social Protection and the Ministry of Economy and Finance, the programme focused on reducing maternal and child mortality, improving early childhood development, enhancing nutrition, and strengthening health governance and data systems.

The programme ran from January to December 2023. Activities included training and capacity building of primary health care professionals, developing regional health strategies, and addressing persistent disparities between urban and rural areas. By reinforcing national capacities and promoting sustainable improvements, the initiative supported Morocco’s long-term vision for a healthier, more inclusive future.
