UNFPA and WHO, thanks to funding from the European Commission, join forces to support cancer prevention in Bosnia and Herzegovina through vital research on cervical, breast, colorectal, and prostate cancers. This work lays out the foundation for a national cancer prevention programme, aligned with the European Union’s Cancer Plan for Europe, the WHO’s Global Strategy for Cervical Cancer Elimination, and the Global Breast Cancer Initiative.
The one-year project (Dec 2024–Dec 2025) aims to improve the availability of cancer data, helping design evidence-based, targeted interventions and strengthening early detection and treatment across the country. It also identifies training needs, assesses laws and procedures, and recommends changes to align with European and global best practices.
This joint programme addresses an urgent public health need, helping save lives, reduce the burden on families and health systems, and improve the well-being of communities across the country.
