UNFPA and WHO, funded by the European Commission, are joining forces to support cancer prevention in Bosnia and Herzegovina through vital research on cervical, breast, colorectal, and prostate cancers. This work will lay the foundation for a national cancer prevention programme, aligned with the European Union’s Cancer Plan for Europe, the WHO’s Global Strategy for Cervical Cancer Elimination, and the Global Breast Cancer Initiative.
The one-year project (Dec 2024–Dec 2025) will improve the availability of cancer data, helping design evidence-based, targeted interventions and strengthening early detection and treatment across the country. It will also identify training needs, assess laws and procedures, and recommend changes to align with European and global best practices.
Cancer is one of the leading causes of death in Bosnia and Herzegovina. This joint programme addresses an urgent public health need, helping save lives, reduce the burden on families and health systems, and improve the well-being of communities across the country.
