Joint Programme to Prevent and Respond to Sexual and Gender-Based Violence in Liberia (Phase II)

The Joint Programme on Gender-Based Violence in Liberia worked to prevent and respond to gender-based violence by addressing survivors’ needs, bolstering the role of communities in preventing and responding to violence, and creating an enabling legal and policy environment.

UNFPA, UNDP, UNICEF, UNHCR, UN Women and WHO, working in partnership with Government to support Liberia’s National GBV Plan of Action.

Programme activities included capacity building for staff in health, legal and protection systems, supporting the establishment of GBV referrals across the country, and putting in place systems for reporting, data collection, and policy support, while also fostering social support for survivors and raising awareness of the issue. Phase 1 of the programme ran from 2009 to 2012.
