Preventing and Responding to Sexual and Gender-based Violence in Liberia

The Government-UN Joint Programme on Sexual and Gender-based Violence in Liberia supported the implementation of the National GBV Plan of Action.

It worked to strengthen health, legal and protection systems through activities that included building capacity of personnel, putting in place resources to establish referral systems for survivors, enhancing psychosocial and other support service provision, supporting data collection, providing policy support and raising awareness.

A joint effort of UNFPA, UNDP, UNIFEM, UNHCR and WHO, with funding from Sweden and Norway, the programme ran from 2009 to 2012. A second phase was completed in 2016.
